An education is one of the most
important investments you can make in yourself. You will be
able to better afford the education you want if you take advantage
of all of the financial aid options that are available for
you.
Need-Based
Grants
Grants are awarded to students who have a financial need based
on formulas established by federal and state government and/or
the school. Unlike a loan, grants do not have to be repaid.
Grants are available from the federal government, state government,
school and private organizations.
Federal
Work-Study Programs
FWSP's provide government subsidized, need-based employment
opportunities for students. A work-study job lets you earn
money for your education and supplements your discretionary
income. Speak with the Financial Aid Administrator at your
school about these unique job opportunities.
Federal Perkins Loans
These are often available to students with exceptional financial
need. The school makes this type of low-interest loan with
government funds that you must repay to the school. Your school's
Financial Aid Office will determine your eligibility and can
help you with the loan process.
A Parent Federal PLUS Loan is
a nice loan available to parents of dependent undergraduate
students. This loan requires a credit check and allows parents
to borrow up to the full cost of attendance less any financial
aid awarded to the student.
Alternative/Private Loans
Alternative loans, also known as private loans, can help you
receive from all financial aid sources and what you really
need to cover the total cost of your education. There are
a number of private lenders that offer loans for school with
a variety of interest rates and options. |
